Shocking Workplace Accident Under Investigation
Safety officials from the California Division of Occupational Safety and Health (Cal-OSHA) are investigating an accident at a Bumble Bee Foods seafood plant in Santa Fe Springs. The accident claimed the life of an employee, who was found dead inside a steamer machine used to cook seafood. The 62 year old employee had been working at the plant for six years. It is currently unknown how or why the employee was inside the cooking device.
Cal-OSHA will complete its investigation in the next few months, including a review of safety documentation, interviews with employees, and visits to the site of the accident. When the investigation is complete and if warranted, Cal-OSHA and the LA County District Attorney’s office will issue civil penalties and issue criminal charges.
