Honda Plans to Appeal Small Claims Ruling

February 8, 2012 by · Leave a Comment

In a widely reported news story, Honda was taken to small claims court after the Honda Civic Hybrid failed to live up to gas efficiency claims advertised by Honda. The court awarded a judgment of nearly $10,000, thousands more than Honda was offering members of a class action lawsuit. It’s also been reported that Honda plans to appeal that ruling.

To most people, it would seem like a waste of time for Honda to appeal such a small ruling. But many legal observers believe that Honda would like to avoid setting a negative precedent. With over 200,000 eligible members of the proposed class action lawsuit, $10,000 cases could become very expensive for the company should everyone pursue a Honda Civic Hybrid case in small claims court.

The appeals process will be a much more difficult endeavor. During the appeal, Honda will be permitted to have a team of lawyers present their arguments, something not allowed at a small claims hearing.

The Law Offices of Larry H. Parker is currently investigating potential small claims action against Honda for their misleading advertising. If you or a loved one has opted out of the Honda class action lawsuit, contact Larry H. Parker today at (800) 333-0000 for a free consultation.
