Two new studies have been released reaffirming the dangers of Avandia.

Avandia, a diabetes drug manufactured by GlaxoSmithKline, has been under investigation for increasing the risk of heart attack and heart failure in patients taking the prescription. The Law Offices of Larry H. Parker Avandia webpage has more information on previous Avandia studies. Now, two new studies have been released reaffirming the dangers of Avandia. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) will be meeting soon to determine if Avandia should be removed from the market.

Compounding the research of previous clinical safety trials, the Cleveland Clinic, a non-profit academic medical center, found that Avandia increases the risk of a heart attack anywhere from 28% to 39%. The Cleveland Clinic’s head of Cardiology has insisted that Avandia be pulled from the market. The other study released shows that Avandia places patients at a greater risk of heart attack and heart failure than a rival drug.

If you or a loved one has experienced a heart attack or other adverse heart event while taking Avandia, you may be entitled to compensation. Call The Law Offices of Larry H. Parker today at (800) 333-0000 or send us an email using the Contact Us form on the right.

The first Chinese drywall case to be tried by jury in U.S. courts has concluded. A Florida jury awarded an astonishing $2.4 million damages award to a Florida couple who had to abandon their $1.6 million home.

According to the Associated Press, “The six-person jury ruled that Armin and Lisa Seifart should receive more than just the costs of gutting and renovating their home: They were also awarded damages for loss of enjoyment of the $1.6 million house and for the drywall stigma that might reduce its resale value.”

Thousands of lawsuits involving faulty Chinese drywall are pending in the courts. After Hurricane Katrina and the housing boom, faulty Chinese drywall was imported at a very high rate to the southeastern United States. Unfortunately, these batches of defective drywall began emitting a noxious odor, destroying wiring, ruining plumbing, and even causing damage to computers and jewelery.

The distributor of the toxic dry wall, Banner Supply Co., was accused of ignoring evidence that the drywall from China was defective, including recommendations from the Chinese manufacturers that the drywall not be used. The jury found Banner Supply Co. 55% responsible for the problems experienced by the Seifart family.

If your family suspects that tainted, faulty Chinese drywall was installed in your home, the Consumer Product Safety Commission has recommended removing the drywall as quickly as possible. Any adversely affected wiring or piping should also be removed. The Law Offices of Larry H. Parker handles many similar product liability cases. If you or a loved one has been the victim of any faulty product, contact us today using our email form or by phone at (800) 333-0000.

Allergan, the maker of Botox, was just slapped with a $15 million jury verdict for negligence after causing years of pain in a woman after Botox injections.

After a 12 hour deliberation, Oklahoma gynecologist and obstetrician Dr. Sharla Helton was awarded the verdict. Dr. Helton blames many health problems and the loss of her job on the Botox injections she received in 2006. These health problems include pain, eyesight problems, and difficulty breathing.

Other product liability cases involving the wrinkle-reducing injection Botox are in the court system right now. Some patients who received Botox injections have experienced a wide range of side-effects, including decrease in vision, allergic reactions, and muscle weakness. The most serious side effect is the inability to swallow, which can lead to an inability to eat or even breathe.

In May 2006, GE received a a recommendation from its own safety experts to restrict the usage of Omniscan after reports in Europe linked the product with NSF.

Nephrogenic Systemic Fibrosis, or NSF, is a debilitating disease that causes skin to become tight and rigid on the hands, feet, arms, and legs. The affected skin can also be itchy, burning, and/or painful, and also can form raised, discolored bumps. Internal organs can be affected by the disease, which can occasionally lead to death.

The only known cause of NSF is gadolinium poisoning. Gadolinium is a contrast agent used in MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) scans. One such gadolinium contrast agent is called Omniscan, manufactured by GE Healthcare. Most people are able to flush gadolinium from their system, but patients with lowered kidney function wouldn’t be able to flush the gadolinium quite as fast, leading to the risk of gadolinium poisoning.

In May 2006, GE received a a recommendation from its own safety experts to restrict the usage of Omniscan after reports in Europe linked the product with NSF. Rather than heeding the advice and warning doctors to stop using Omniscan in high-risk patients, GE actively tried to fight off any label changes by arguing Omniscan was no more dangerous than its competitors, a claim that many doctors and safety experts disagree with.

The Law Offices of Larry H. Parker is helping pursue numerous legal claims on behalf of MRI patients who have been contacted our law firm after being diagnosed with NSF. If you or a loved one has been diagnosed with nephrogenic systemic fibrosis, we can help you too. Contact The Law Offices of Larry H.
Recent studies conducted by the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons have suggested that Fosamax can increase the risk of fractures to the femur.

Recent studies conducted by the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons have suggested that Fosamax can increase the risk of fractures to the femur. The femur, or thigh bone, is generally considered one of the strongest bones in the body. Fosamax, a bisphosphonate drug, is usually prescribed to treat osteoporosis and osteopenia in post-menopausal women, chemotherapy patients, and bone loss disorders.

It goes without saying that women taking Fosamax are doing so in an attempt to strengthen their bones. The last thing anyone would expect while on Fosamax is for the strongest bone in the body to snap, sometimes completely in two, after light exercises or suffering a minor fall. It has been suggested that after extended use of Fosamax, bones may become so hard that they snap easily. It may also be possible that Fosamax may interfere with the body’s natural process of replacing bone tissue, causing brittle bones after extended use.

Whatever the explanation, femur fractures are extremely frightening occurrences. If you or a loved one has suffered from a femur fracture or broken thigh bone after extended use of Fosamax, you may be entitled to compensation. Contact The Law Offices of Larry H. Parker at (800) 333-0000 today for a free consultation. For more information on Fosamax, visit our Fosamax Information page.

News stories of Toyota Prius' suddenly accelerating are all over today.

On the heels of yesterday’s post where we stated “The Toyota unintended acceleration problem has been all over the news lately”, stories of Prius’ sudden acceleration…are all over the news today!

The Associated Press just detailed a nerve-racking anecdote of a driver who’s Toyota Prius experienced unintended acceleration while on a highway outside of San Diego. You’ll probably see more of James Sikes’ story in the news soon. Mr. Sikes contacted the California Highway Patrol with a simple message: “My car can’t slow down.” 23 minutes and some burned-out brakes later, the CHP was able to help the man stop his car. ***** (Please note that this story is most likely a hoax, as described at Forbes.)

Also reported, a few hours later in New York, a Toyota Prius appears to have accelerated into a garden wall. A separate news blog article details the story of a Minnesota doctor who’s Toyota Prius experienced unintended acceleration while in reverse.

Anything involving Toyota vehicles with circumstances that appear to be slightly out of the ordinary are becoming news stories, even when there are no injuries and minimal damages involved. Expect the Toyota sudden acceleration problem to be major news for a while yet.

Sudden acceleration of Toyota vehicles may be an electrical problem instead of a mechanical problem.

The Toyota sudden acceleration problem has been all over the news lately. Between the recalls, the public apologies, and the calls for Congressional investigations, a new narrative has emerged thanks to reports of sudden acceleration still occurring after undergoing Toyota’s repair and Southern Illinois University professor David W. Gilbert. The possibility that sudden acceleration of Toyota vehicles may be an electrical problem instead of a mechanical problem has been repeatedly asserted in the news recently, and Toyota is aggressively attempting to debunk this story.

Gilbert is an associate professor of automotive technology at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois. In late February, Gilbert claimed he was able to reproduce the sudden acceleration problem in Toyota vehicles using only electrical shorts. Gilbert testified to Congress that it only took him a few hours to reproduce the errors, which would cause unintended acceleration and produce no errors that would allow the braking system to override the throttle.

Toyota, for its part, contends that Gilbert’s electrical reproduction of the sudden acceleration problem is nearly impossible to occur in the real world and that any car, regardless of make or model, would exhibit the exact same behavior. This claim by Toyota was backed up by independent engineers and was aggressively marketed at news agencies in an attempt to counter Gilbert. Toyota believes that the current mechanical fix implemented on millions of Toyota is addressing the sudden acceleration issues.

With all the back and forth between Toyota, the U.S. Government, and other independent experts, it’s apparent that information about the Toyota sudden acceleration problem will continue to emerge. The Law Offices of Larry H. Parker and our nationally recognized team of automobile defect attorneys is continuing to monitor the current Toyota sudden acceleration recall and any additional recalls that may yet happen.
